Programmed-delivery products revitalize markets for old drugs, report says
American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy 1986 Jul; 43:1645-1646

Abstract:

A 248-page report by Frost & Sullivan, Inc. which notes that programmed drug delivery has revived markets for old drugs was briefly summarized. A new Frost & Sullivan study notes that while the total prescription drug market grew 13.1% between 1982 and 1984, products incorporating programmed drug delivery systems increased at a compound annual growth rate of 76%. The total market for drugs combined with programmed delivery systems is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 37.7% between 1985 and 1990, to reach $3.3 billion in constant 1985 dollars. The types of drug delivery systems involved are osmotic systems; diffusion-controlled systems; ion-exchange systems; polymer, matrix, and erosion systems; liposomes; microencapsulation; and targeted drug delivery. The study includes a detailed discussion of the drug delivery systems market, with a look at the market composition. The entire study is available for $1800.
