Senate studies how private sector negotiates with pharmaceutical manufacturers for lower prices
American Pharmacy 1990 Feb; 8

Abstract:

Findings of the Senate Special Committee on Aging on rising drug prices, based on a survey of pharmacy directors and physicians at hospitals, health maintenance organizations and Medicaid programs, are presented. The committee determined that federal and state governments pay higher prices for prescription drugs than any other large buyer in the marketplace. The report emphasized negotiations between private health care providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers which result in lower drug costs.
