Expected impact of managed health care organizations on the research intensive U.S. pharmaceutical industry
Journal of Pharmaceutical Marketing Management 1991; 5:(3):65-77

Abstract:

The results of a comprehensive questionnaire mailed to representatives of 30 manufacturers and 72 pharmacy schools to assess the expected impact of managed health care on the research intensive U.S. pharmaceutical industry are presented. Managed health care plans are expected to cover 45% of all outpatient prescriptions in 5 yr and approximately 70% in 10 yr. The respondents also expect changes in the development and marketing of new drug products to include pharmacoeconomic study components. These changes represent opportunities that may not be fully apparent to many pharmacy educators.
