Abstract:

The advantages, disadvantages, benefits, costs, and policy implications of prescription drug advertising to physicians are discussed; direct advertising of prescription drugs to consumers is also presented, including the health benefits of direct advertising to the consumer, the effects on drug pricing, the policy implications, and the negative implications to the consumer of the Food and Drug Administration’s current restrictions on direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs.
