Mixson P.
Britain's nationalized pharmacy: lesson for the U.S.
Drug Topics 1975 Dec 1; 119:21, 26-27

Abstract:

Under the new British National Health Service (NHS) plan, the country is divided into 14 regions, each under a regional health authority, and all medical services from prescription dispensing to surgery, are under the control of a board appointed by the government. Pharmacists are classified as independent contractors unless they work for a hospital, in which case they are NHS employees on salary. The community pharmacist signs a contract with the government for an operator’s license, and agrees to nonadvertisment of prescription filling, and the maintenance of certain uniform opening hours.
