Some Rx drug makers are using discount coupons
American Druggist 1983 Feb; 187: 53

Abstract:

The use of discount coupons by several pharmaceutical companies to promote cardiovascular drugs and other medications is described. The coupons, which are good for a free prescription or several dollars off the price, are given to the patient with the prescription. An agency hired by the drug company refunds the pharmacy the price of the prescription, and sometimes a handling charge. Three-fourths of the promotional drugs are those taken for chronic conditions.
