Unintentional overdose of theophylline: challenge to the pharmaceutical industry.
Clin Pharm 1984 Sep-Oct; 3:(5):523-4

Abstract:

The toxicities associated with unintentional overdose of theophylline (I), due to patient errors and overprescribing by physicians, unrecognized drug interactions and cumulative effects of sustained-action I preparations, are discussed. It was suggested that, due to the low therapeutic index of I, the pharmaceutical industry, health practitioners and FDA should devise dispensing techniques and precautionary measures that will eliminate unintentional overdose.
