Rockwell T.
Rx ads to consumers at the threshold
Pharmaceutical Executive 1984 Sep; 4:52, 54, 58

Abstract:

Studies on consumers’ and health professionals’ attitudes toward the advertising of prescription drugs directly to consumers are reviewed. With the increasing trend of self-medication, consumers are actively looking for more information on prescription drugs. A television survey on viewers’ response to prescription drug advertising showed that of 1897 responding viewers (52% were health professionals), a majority agreed that advertising prescription drugs on television will be of benefit to the consumer. Direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs that meets high standards of education and information can improve health care communications.
