Abstract:

Predictions for 1985 growth of the prescription market are presented. Drug industry observers predicted small growth for the prescription market in 1985, an increase in the order of 2% or 3% in terms of units. A schedule of drug patent expirations for 1985 is given. With the enactment of the new generic drug legislation, 1985 will be the yr of the greatest proliferation of generic drugs in history. The generic share of the market is expected to double within the next 4 yr.
