Abstract:

An assessment of the effects of various drug utilization and cost components on pharmacy benefit program costs in a managed care services organization during a 3 yr period is presented, including the impact of pharmaceutical manufacturers’ drug price increases, changes in the number of drug units dispensed per prescription, and the relative use of more or less expensive drugs within a therapeutic class.
