Abstract:

Various factors that influence the integrity of the formulary system in a health care system, including personal interests of staff, the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory issues, and the societal obligations of the institution, are described, and the role of institutional pharmacists and the pharmacy and therapeutics committee in ensuring the application of pharmaceutical care to the drug selection and prescribing process is discussed.
