IFPMA code: the breach and the observence
Health Horizons 1988 Sep; (5):22-24

Abstract:
Two clear messages emerged from the panel discussion which concluded the IFPMA International Symposium on the operation of the IFPMA code. The first is that the effectiveness of the code should not be judged by the extent to which it is breached, but by the extent to which it is observed. The second is that the major problems of the developing countries do not centre on marketing practices, but on supply, distribution, quality and price of medicines. Whilst it is vital to maintain the momentum of the code, efforts by industry to help the developing countries to solve these other problems could be as important, if not more so, in terms of ensuring that the industry is perceived as an essential and repsonbile partner in the healthcare delivery system.
