Harvey K.
The influence of advertising over prescribing
Australian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy 1988; 18:(3):25-28

Abstract:

A meeting on the influence of advertising over prescribing was held with representatives from: the pharmaceutical industry, the Medical Lobby for Appropriate Marketing, a consumer rights lawyer, a pharmacist and representatives from the Trade Practices Commission and the (Australian) Commonwealth Department of Community Services and Health. Given the proposed withdrawal of the Commonwealth Department from monitoring pharmaceutical advertisements there was a strong view expressed that the impact of this decision should be monitored. Finally, it was reiterated that inappropriate prescribing was not only caused by inaccurate or misleading advertisements, but also by promotional practices that undermine or subvert properly constituted drug policies.
