Abstract:

(Limited to parts of article dealing with promotion.) From the very start of their medical careers doctors are exposed to the drug industry and receive an incredible assortment of gifts. The two major forms of promotion are sales representatives and journal advertising. It is estimated that companies spend about $11 million annually on detailers. Information from both sources of promotion is distorted and misleading.
