Drug companies and rheumatologists.
Br J Rheumatol. 1983 May 22; 2:65-6
Abstract:
Support for research and education, sponsorship of meetings, fellowships and assistance for individuals to attend international meetings has often been provided by companies with no or minimal direct advantage to them. Most companies are members of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry and follow its Code of Practice. However, in the highly competitive market of anti-inflammatory drugs the entrepreneurial drive has led some companies to contravene the spirit of the Code. Pertinent to this discussion is the apparent eagerness of many rheumatologists to accept gratuitous invitations to opulent promotional meetings yet make no contribution except by their presence. The profession would benefit from further discussion of these issues.
