Penna RD.
American Pharmaceutical Association
Journal of Drug Issues 1974; 4:268-273

Abstract:

Dr. Penna denounces many of the drug companies’ promotional campaigns and techniques. He feels that manufacturers of both prescription and over-the-counter drugs have neglected to present factual, unbiased drug information for prescription and self-medication. In reviewing the problems of self-interest he stresses the need to reconsider the role of the pharmacist in providing accurate usable drug information to physicians and consumers. Dr. Penna would like to see the development of a new class of drugs which would be dispensed only by pharmacists and without prescription. These drugs would not be advertised nor displayed for public consumption.
