Abstract:

The proposal in Sweden of a policy abandoning the use of all trade names in favor of either generic names or substance names (generic name plus the name of the manufacturer) on all prescriptions as a means of encouraging generic prescribing and reducing costs, and its impact on the pharmaceutical industry is described.
