Ontario's PARCOST (prescriptions at reasonable cost) program
Canadian Pharmaceutical Journal 1973 Nov; 106:346-351

Abstract:

The effect of a program in which pharmacists purchased drugs from manufacturers at a government negotiated price is discussed. The major changes in pharmacy practice resulting from the PARCOST program related to the method of prescription pricing, product selection, and increased government involvement with the pharmaceutical industry. The main objective of the program, to decrease prescription prices in Ontario, was carried out. A chart lists the status of product selection legislation in Canadian provinces.
