Abstract:
An overview of mail order prescription drug services is presented. A classification of suppliers is given, followed by a discussion of the general features of these services. Special features of programs and issues regarding mail order services are mentioned. It is stated that the mail order prescription practice is probably a permanent institution and will inevitably expand over time. Organized pharmacy is in a position to participate with interested parties in the objective evaluation of practices and the planning of standards for the mail order prescription drug industry. A list of the most frequently dispensed drugs for one of the organizations using this service is included.
