Environmental analysis of the prescription drug industry
Drug Information Journal 1980 Jan 3; 14:20-23
Abstract:
The present and future economic and regulatory environment for pharmaceutical industries in the U.S. which develop and sell prescription drugs is analyzed. The prescription drug industry faces challenges posed by increasing public scrutiny and increasing governmental regulation. Firms which have the financial and scientific resources to undergo new product development in today’s research environment will be able to make profits. Small firms will be able to profit from generic markets through price competition. Continued increases in the demand for prescription drugs will aid both segments of the industry.
