The basis of medical school cooperation with industry in the production of accredited continuing medical education
Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions 1989; 10:373-375
Abstract:
All external financial support for continuing medical education should be provided through the CME office or through the Dean’s Office, depending on individual institutional policy. The financial support of the commercial company must be acknowledged on the promotional material. The use of scientific names in discussing pharmaceutical agents is preferred. In all instances, a balanced discussion of all therapeutic options should be presented. The proper implementation of these principles requires that the medical school should be involved early on in the planning process. Medical schools welcome the participation o commercial companies as CME partners. Partnerships based on the principles discussed in this statement will be of benefit to commercial companies, medical schools, the participating physicians, and above all, to our patients and the public.
