Labeling effectiveness and the health environment
1980; 6:275-287

Abstract:

This chapter examines product labeling as it applies to the area of prescription drug promotion. It outlines the role of the Food and Drug Administration in drug labeling and the various methods of drug promotion concentrating on sales representatives and journal advertising but also briefly mentioning direct mailing, continuing medical education and convention exhibits. In addition to promotional activities directed specifically to health practitioners, pharmaceutical manufacturers are concerned with more general publicity that may be given to their products. This aspect is discussed with reference to the activities of on manufacturer around the question of estrogen replacement and uterine cancer.
