Petsonk EL.
Conflicts of interest in drug research.
N Engl J Med 1979 Aug 9; 301:(6):335

Abstract:

Support from pharmaceutical companies can influence the scientific evaluation of drugs in a number of ways: company involvement in the design of the studies; company selection of the investigator; multiple studies of a single agent giving the impression of greater product importance. The author suggests that editors of journals discuss potentially conflicting sources of funding in editorial commentaries about studies of this kind.
